LandsNude<\/em> was a group exhibition presented at Artcore Gallery in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2015. It brought together photographers who had developed through workshops with the curator, working with him on the relationship between the body and the natural environment. It was the first time their work was shown together in a gallery context, and on an international platform outside Turkey.<\/p>\n\n

The exhibition's core proposition was structural: a nude body photographed within a landscape, rather than inside a studio, ceases to be a subject isolated from context. It becomes continuous with the material world around it: rock, water, vegetation, wind. The photographs were made without studio lighting, without staged compositions, and without post-production manipulation. What the camera recorded was what was present: a body, a place, and the light between them.<\/p>\n\n

Every image in the exhibition was in black and white, as a strategy more than a stylistic preference. Removing colour removes the chromatic register that can sentimentalise landscape photography. Without colour, the body becomes topography and the topography becomes anatomy. The exhibition asked whether the nude in landscape can avoid the pastoral tradition that has shaped centuries of European art, and it answered through this tonal discipline.<\/p>\n\n

LandsNude<\/em> was the curator's first formal curatorial project, and it placed his own photographs alongside those of the participating photographers. In Nudes of Istanbul<\/em><\/a> (Die Akt Galerie, Berlin, and Uxval Gochez Gallery, Barcelona, 2026), he serves as sole curator and has no photographs in the exhibition: a clearer separation of curatorial and artistic roles, developed across a decade of practice.<\/p>\n\n

The thematic ground of LandsNude<\/em> continues in the ongoing series Ecotone<\/em><\/a>, which extends the investigation of the body as a transitional zone between human and non-human environments.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Participating Photographers<\/h2>\n

The exhibition presented works by eight photographers in total: the curator and seven photographers who had developed through his workshop practice in Istanbul. Two of the seven were women. The group had worked together on the relationship between the body and the natural environment for an extended period before the exhibition, making work across locations in Turkey and Greece.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>

Context & Approach<\/h2>\n

The decision to present the exhibition in Thessaloniki rather than Istanbul was deliberate. Greece shares with Turkey a long history of the nude in art, from classical Mediterranean sculpture to modern photography, but in 2015 its public and institutional context for photographic nudes was more open than Turkey's. Geographical proximity and cultural continuity made Artcore Gallery a meaningful first venue for a project developed in Turkey that could not, at that moment, find a gallery platform at home.<\/p>\n\n

This pattern of producing in Turkey and presenting internationally became a recurring feature of the curator's later practice. It returns, in a more explicit and politically articulated form, in Nudes of Istanbul<\/em> eleven years later.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>

Thematic Continuation<\/h2>\n

The body-in-landscape inquiry opened by LandsNude<\/em> continues in the curator's own fine art practice through the series Ecotone<\/em><\/a>. Where LandsNude<\/em> was a bounded group project with a specific exhibition framework, Ecotone<\/em> is an ongoing solo investigation that carries the same conceptual ground across a longer period and a wider range of environments, drawing on Donna Haraway's concept of natureculture<\/em> and related contemporary ecological thought.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>
