Crave<\/h1>\n

The Body Between Heat and Distance<\/p>\n

Desire as appetite: heat, touch, taste, and the gaze that follows them.<\/p>\n <\/header>\n\n

\n

Crave<\/em> is about appetite. The series photographs erotic pleasure through the senses. Pleasure can comfort, and it can also unsettle; Crave<\/em> moves between the two. The camera comes close, close enough for the body to become texture and heat.<\/p>\n\n

The nude has long been a genre of distance: the body seen whole, from far enough away to be judged. Crave<\/em> gives up that distance. At this range the eye stops surveying and begins to work like the other senses. This kind of looking starts in the body before it reaches thought.<\/p>\n\n

Two kinds of light shape the series. In one, skin emerges from darkness into a single source, and flesh and shadow carve each other. In the other, colour itself carries the mood: warm ambers and reds, artificial purples and greens. In Crave<\/em> the two meet. The framing stays tight, cropping the body to the place where sensation happens.<\/p>\n\n

In pleasure, a body can briefly stop feeling separate from another. Pleasure is also a source of knowledge and strength, something to be trusted rather than hidden. Crave<\/em> treats it as a way of knowing the body from the inside, through taste, touch, and the act of looking.<\/p>\n\n

Desire also lives in what stands in its way. Smoke, fogged glass, and coloured light come between the eye and the skin, and the wanting grows in that delay: a relation to what almost, but not quite, arrives.<\/p>\n\n

The gaze matters as much as the touch. For most of its history the nude was made for a viewer who could look without being seen. In Crave<\/em>, looking becomes mutual, and the viewer becomes one of the people in the room.<\/p>\n\n

Crave<\/em> asks to be felt before it is explained.<\/p>\n <\/section>\n\n
