Burak Bulut Yıldırım, Berlin-based fine art photographer, black and white portrait

アーティスト・ステートメント

These photographs are made in an era when images of the body are generated, filtered, composited, and synthesized at an unprecedented scale. Against that condition, my practice insists on a different order of image — one made in the room, in front of the camera, through the slow collaboration of light, material, and time.

Across nineteen years I have worked on the nude not as subject but as a surface through which other things can be thought. Four series form the spine of the practice. アンヌード treats the body as sculptural geometry, where hard light carves gesture into architecture. キメラ fractures the figure through damaged mirrors and refractive surfaces, producing anatomies that exist only within the optics of the camera. ルシダ dissolves flesh into ultraviolet pigment and long exposure, where the body becomes a phosphorescent membrane. 検死 works with veils, draped textiles, and durational captures to hold the figure at the threshold of disappearance. Each series is a different regime of surface mediation between body and light.

The transformations happen inside the camera. Damaged mirrors, ultraviolet pigments, long exposures, textile interventions — these enter the photograph at the moment of exposure, not afterwards. Digital post-production is part of my working process, as it is for any contemporary photographer, but the image’s central decision is made in the shoot. This is not a position against digital tools; it is a position about where the work is located.

Nineteen years, ten series, one sustained question: the photograph promises a single image of the body, yet no single image can contain what a body is. Each series is a different response to that insufficiency — not a solution, but a way of working with it.
